Celebrating victory in prestigious Scottish care awards!

The team and residents at Birch House Care Home in Peterculter at awards ceremony

The residents and team at a Sanctuary Care home in Aberdeen are bursting with pride after a win in Scottish Care's National Care Awards 2022.

Resident Ambassador Pauline Clyne was joined by members of the team of Birch House Care Home to collect the Specialist Service of the Year Award at a special ceremony in Glasgow recently.

The home was nominated for the way they have whole-heartedly embraced co-production, which means the staff and residents work in partnership, with the residents having a very active role to play in how their home is run and feels.

The residents get involved in everything from choosing new decor and gardening, to supporting with recruitment by interviewing potential members of staff.

Home manager Pat Hutchison said: “We were absolutely thrilled to win! I am immensely proud of how the staff and residents are shaping the service together.

“This is about championing the abilities of our residents and what they can do – they are living their best lives and we are enormously proud of how much we have achieved together.

“They are delighted with their roles and how they contribute to how their home is run – it gives them such a sense of belonging, purpose and achievement and truly enriches their lives.”

Resident Ambassador Pauline is passionate about co-production and how it empowers her and her fellow residents. Following the ceremony, she said: “I was so happy to attend the awards and was so happy and emotional that we won!”
