The Manse Residential Care Home

The team are dedicated to supporting the residents and their families to take an active role in how their care home is run. They participate in everything from deciding what experiences they may wish to take part in, to choosing what’s on the menu.  

And we help our residents to continue to do the things they love. For example, two are keen gardeners, so they take the lead here. We take them shopping for seeds and they choose what to plant and when (more below).  

Another resident is a pastor, so shares his passion by running religious ceremonies, helping our residents with their spiritual needs. We have resident-led art and book clubs too. We are proud to support our residents to share their skills and do things which bring them joy! 

The team are passionate about ‘buddying’ residents and staff with shared interests, so they spend time doing what they love with a shared goal. One resident loves fishing, so a staff member who shares this passion took him fishing for the day, followed by a pub lunch. 

One of our relatives is a personal trainer, so regularly leads gentle exercise classes. And families and friends join our cheese and wine evenings. Here we discuss life at our care home in South Norwood and people share their feedback and suggestions. 

We are dedicated to enriching the lives of our residents, who enjoy so many experiences, including:  

• Getting out and about. Visiting parks near our care home in South Norwood and the local arts centre, Stanley Arts London. South Norwood Country Park is a short drive from The Manse.    
• Animal visits, with everything from rabbits and ponies to chicks. 
• Themed events like Halloween parties and sports days.  
• Visits from a mobile hairdresser to our salon. 
• Arts and crafts  
• Cookery sessions, where we create dishes from around the world. 
• Summer garden parties and barbecues.  
• Gardening sessions, growing our own fruit and vegetables for our chef to use in the kitchen. 
• Live music and entertainment. 

Families and friends are welcome to take part at any time. And if they can’t always be there in person, we have a private family and friends Facebook page. This is full of photos and videos of what the residents have been enjoying doing.  

We offer respite care stays. So, if you are taking care of a relative at home, you can book a stay for them at our care home in South East London, with the peace of mind of knowing they are in safe hands.

With our own head chef, our residents enjoy nutritious, delicious home-cooked food every day. They enjoy Fish and Chip Fridays and roast dinners with all the trimmings. There are also home-baked cakes or biscuits every day for Afternoon Tea.

It is common for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their care home fees. Some people have the resources to pay for this in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions. 

Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents due to the difference in care requirements and are subject to a pre-admissions assessment.
