Life in our care home in Croydon, South London

We encourage and support our residents and their families to have a very active role to play in the way their care home is run. They are involved in everything from deciding what activities to do, to what’s on the menu. We love to get our residents to continue to do the things they love. For example, two of our residents love gardening, so are our head gardeners. We take them shopping for seeds and they choose what to plant and when (read more below).

Another of our residents loves art, so runs art classes, while another resident runs his own book club. We are proud to support our residents to share their skills and do things which bring them joy!

Our families love to get involved too – one of our relatives runs regular exercise sessions. And so many join our cheese and wine evenings, where we discuss life in the home and things they would like to see.

What activities are on offer at The Manse?

Our residents love getting out and about. We are on the main bus route into Croydon and have fantastic transport links. We also love to visit local parks and the local arts centre, Stanley Arts London. South Norwood Country Park is a short drive from The Manse.   

We are very lucky to have lots of animal visits, with everything from rabbits and ponies to chicks.

With a hairdressing salon, our residents enjoy weekly visits from a local hairdresser, who regularly visits The Manse and other care homes in South Norwood and Croydon.

Our courtyard garden is a lovely spot to enjoy our regular summer parties and barbecues. Our gardens are bursting with fruit and veg thanks to our resident gardeners, who run gardening sessions with their fellow residents. They pick the produce for our chef to use in the kitchen.

What is the food like at The Manse?

With our own head chef, our residents enjoy nutritious, delicious home-cooked food every day. From fish and chip Fridays to roast dinners with all the trimmings, our residents also enjoy home-baked cakes and biscuits every day for afternoon tea.

Pricing at our South Norwood care home

It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for this in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions.

Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to understand the level of care and support needed. Our 2024 weekly care fees for residential care start from £1,210 but may be in the region of 30% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms through to our premium bedroom options.

*If you require more specialist care such as 1-2-1 support, your weekly fee could be higher.
