Enriching lives through technology
As a not-for-profit leading care provider, we reinvest our surplus income back into the things that matter most for our residents and staff, including pioneering technology which supports us to enrich the lives of our residents. And as people live longer, it’s vital that we take advantages of advances in care home technology to continually enhance the quality of care we provide.

Introducing kradle, our award-winning care planning app
The technology that is transforming the way we are working in Sanctuary Care homes is undoubtedly kradle – Sanctuary Care’s bespoke electronic care planning app – winner of the Best Use of Technology accolade in the Care Home Awards 2020.
In partnership with Sanctuary’s Technology team, a group of dedicated staff with a wealth of experience of caring for our residents worked together on the design and development of kradle, which has been rolled out across our care homes in England, with the roll-out in Scotland making great progress.
Instead of staff spending lengthy amounts of time constantly updating paper copies of residents’ care plans, they are able to record vital details at the point of care on an iPhone, giving them more quality time to spend with their residents.
The benefits of kradle for both our residents and staff are endless. Whether we are recording details about a person’s medical records or a resident simply wants to know what’s on the menu for lunch that day – everything is available at the touch of a button, giving everyone additional peace of mind.

Exploring other care home technology
Sanctuary Care is also passionate about exploring the use of other forms of technology in care homes.
Atlas eMAR, our electronic medication administration system is now live in our care homes, and we are excited to be piloting Atlas GP. This gives our care homes access to GP prescribing systems to speed up the process of ordering our residents’ prescriptions. As well as allowing staff to track a prescription’s journey, Atlas GP also enables staff to view residents’ medical records electronically.
We are also exploring the benefits of acoustic monitoring in one of our homes. This innovative care home technology unobtrusively monitors the sound in residents’ bedrooms, reducing the need for care staff to potentially interrupt a person’s sleep by checking on them throughout the night.
We also embrace other forms of technology to help keep residents safe, including assistive technology such as pendants.
Enriching the lives of our social seniors
Some tech-savvy residents welcome Skype and forms of social media such as Facebook and Twitter to help keep them connected with friends and loved ones. And many of our care homes have their own private Facebook groups for family and friends to see what our residents have been getting up to.
Sanctuary Care homes have Wi-Fi and our staff are only too happy to help residents if they need a hand getting to grips with new technology, it’s great seeing our social seniors become more digitally independent.
