“We had no hesitation in dad going to Ridgewood Court for respite” – Mark’s story

When Mark Johnson needed a week’s respite for his father Paul, our care home in Pensby was exactly what they needed. So much so, Paul has enjoyed two short breaks there since!

Paul is 87 and lives with Alzheimer’s. For the last five years he’s been cared for by Mark and his wife Jan at their home in The Wirral, close to Ridgewood Court Residential Care Home.

Because of the pandemic, Mark and Jan’s holiday was cancelled and Paul’s local day centre, where he spends two days each week, closed. The couple needed a rest, so when the opportunity came to go away for a few days, they needed somewhere they felt completely confident leaving Paul. Ridgewood Court came highly recommended so they booked a visit.

“It was the perfect fit,” says Mark. “We were very, very impressed with the staff and how friendly they were. It smelt fresh, was immaculate and the staff were extremely friendly, so we had no hesitation in dad going.”

Over the next few months Paul has enjoyed another two pre-booked respite breaks at the home, giving Mark and Jan some precious time to themselves.

“It’s a massive break and we really need it,” he adds. “We are extremely happy with the home. All of the staff are incredibly caring and extremely friendly.”

Mark said should the time come when Paul may need permanent care, Ridgewood Court would be the obvious choice.
