Professor Deborah Sturdy visits our care home in Watlington

Professor Deborah Sturdy and staff from Watlington Nursing Home

Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care, Professor Deborah Sturdy, visited our Watlington & District Nursing home recently to learn more about our nurse development programme and see how staff enrich the lives of residents.

Sanctuary Care offers a dedicated development programme for its nurses and newly qualified nurses to forge a successful career across its homes.

At the heart of this is our clinical strategy which provides a pathway of tailored education and training for Sanctuary’s clinical and non-clinical staff.

The approach allows Sanctuary to nurture its workforce and provide dedicated training programmes to upskill staff and advance their careers, while enriching their lives and those of the residents they provide care for.

As Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care, Professor Sturdy was able to meet with Sanctuary Care’s nurses working in the home, talk to them about their roles and the positive impact they are having caring for residents. She was also able to share information on how funding from the Department of Health and Social Care could support the nurses further in their career development in the social care sector.

Jane Earl, Director of Nursing for Sanctuary Care, said: “It was an honour to meet Professor Sturdy and welcome her to Watlington. As a dedicated nursing home, we have many team members at different stages of their nursing careers, so it was a wonderful opportunity for them to speak with her and listen to the valuable advice she shared.

“We are truly proud of the development pathways we provide for staff to forge a successful career in the social care sector. We are committed to enriching the lives of our residents and staff and do this by providing a rewarding journey for them to learn new skills, make a positive impact and develop in their roles so they can thrive in their career aspirations.”
