She’s done it – Abbie is a fully-qualified Assistant Practitioner!

Congratulations to Abbie Troop – who has just become a fully-fledged Assistant Practitioner after completing her foundation degree.

Supported and funded by Sanctuary Care, Abbie was able to continue working at The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home, our home in Spondon, Derby, spending one day a week studying with the University of Derby.

Following her graduation, Abbie said: “I feel very proud and am very, very happy!

“It was hard work because a lot of this was during the pandemic, so I had to do a lot of the academic work online.

“It feels like another chapter of my life has been achieved and I feel very proud to be doing this role! I love my job, providing person-centred care for our residents.”

Abbie’s role as Assistant Practitioner (AP) effectively bridges the gap between care and nursing roles, with APs qualified to perform key clinical duties to support the nurses.

When asked what she would say to anyone thinking about an apprenticeship with Sanctuary Care Abbie said: “Go for it!”
