Inspiring the future generation of care workers

The team at our Bartley Green home in Birmingham are over the moon after scooping an award for the incredible support they give to students on the first step of their care journey.

Kelly Thompson, Home Manager of Bartley Green Lodge Residential Care Home, was joined by her Activities Co-ordinator Leanne Dawes, at the Halesowen College Employer Awards 2023, where they proudly accepted the Outstanding Employer for Student Development in Health and Social Care accolade.

Kelly said: “I want to thank my whole team for everything they do, sharing their knowledge and skills to help the future generation of care workers to flourish. I am enormously proud of them.

“The feedback we’ve had from the college has been so positive, highlighting how the students’ confidence has grown so much and how they have thrived with us.”

The award recognises the team’s “outstanding contribution in supporting college learners in the working industry” and their “dedication and commitment to empowering and guiding students”.

Since October 2022 the home has supported 13 Health and Social Care students from the college, as well as students from other school and colleges.

Kelly added: “As a team we are passionate about supporting young people to be the best they can be, and what better way than to spend time with us and our amazing residents.”

Sanctuary Care currently has over 130 work experience students in its care homes, and over 230 volunteers, supporting people in the community to gain vital work-based skills and confidence.
