“They have given mum her life back” – why Abercorn is an “exceptional” home for Irene

When Gilly was told that her mother Irene would need to move into a care home, she was heartbroken, having cared for her for years at home. But after finding Abercorn, our care home in Lanarkshire, Gilly says it’s the best decision they could have made!  

“I can’t rate Abercorn highly enough – the team are amazing and have given mum her life back – I am totally in awe of them” explains Gilly.  

“The manager and the staff are exceptional – they really can’t do enough for you, and they always go that extra mile – it’s given me great peace of mind.”

Gilly says that Irene, who lives with dementia, is thriving at Abercorn, which has just received a ‘Very Good’ Care Inspectorate rating for every single area inspected.  

When she arrived, she was unable to walk and communicated very little verbally. Fast forward to today and Irene is loving the companionship and takes part so many engaging and fun activities, from gentle exercise classes to karaoke!  

Gilly adds: “She’s got lots of friends here and joins in with so many activities, her wellbeing is so much better and it’s like she’s got part of her old self back.  

“I would go to the moon and back and to the end of the world to thank everyone at Abercorn for what they have done for my mum. I didn’t want her to go into a care home, but I was wrong, she’s got her life and her health back, it’s amazing and she’s so happy.”

Gilly adds: “Abercorn House Care Home is just exceptional, and they treat the residents with love and respect, giving them so much love and care. Mum is treated with such dignity.”
