“The staff are amazing, I love them so much” – Helen tells us why she loves Tyneholm Stables  

Helen admits she was torn when her husband, Dennis, who lives with Parkinson’s and dementia, went to our Tyneholm Stables, our East Lothian care home for a respite break. On one hand she wanted to continue caring for her husband, while on the other she desperately needed a rest.  

“Dennis would get up a lot in the night and would fall over a lot. It was physically and mentally hard and I really don’t know if I could have managed anymore,” she explains.  

Helen entrusted the team with picking up the reigns caring for Dennis – fast forward to today and she happily admits it was the best decision for his welfare, and her own, with Dennis having moved in permanently.  

A team devoted to enriching lives  

“The staff are absolutely amazing. I love them so much, I can’t praise them enough,” she explains. “They are so loving and caring and give me such peace of mind.”  

For Helen, the team are there for her and her family as much as they are for Dennis; “I always get a cuddle from them when I go in and it means so much that I can talk to every single one of them,” she adds.  

Dennis has now been at the home for over a year and for Helen, it feels like home for her too.  

“It’s so peaceful and I feel very relaxed when I go to visit Dennis at Tyneholm Stables – it’s like a home from home and I feel at home there too.”  

It’s not just the support of the staff that means so much, Helen says Dennis particularly enjoys listening to live music, and the chef Gordon’s famous home-made shortbread!
