I would recommend this place to anybody - Betty's journey

When Betty moved to Briggs Lodge, a Sanctuary Care home in Devizes, two years ago following a sudden illness, she was uncertain what the future would hold.  

Now at 103, Betty has found a sense of comfort and security in knowing that the dedicated team at Briggs Lodge are always there for her, offering support whenever she needs it.  

“I like it here at Briggs because I feel safe and comfortable, and the staff are so kind to me,” she explains. “You know you are not on your own and after my experience that’s nice to know.”

Betty’s mystery illness left her unable to walk without the support of a frame, but, in true Betty style, the glamorous centenarian still loves to wear her heels!  

And she particularly enjoys having her hair washed and styled each week in the home’s hair salon by Briggs’ mobile hairdresser, who visits every week for appointments with the residents.  

Betty gives us an insight into her beauty secrets, which keep her looking decades younger than her real age!  

“When I took home my first week’s pay, with that money my mother took me to a beauty bar in Selfridges and they said you should always use a moisturiser, so I’ve done that since I was 17 and it does stop the wrinkles!”  

Betty, who worked as an accountant and has a daughter who lives near the care home in Devizes, explains: “It’s lovely for me that I’ve still got her around.

“They are so good about having visitors here too – I’ve got a very nice friend who comes in virtually every day to visit me for a couple of hours and brings her dog with her which is so nice.

“The staff are all very nice. If you need a care home, I recommend this place to anybody.”
