James’ remarkable road to recovery at The Park
When James moved into The Park, our care home in Chaddesden, Derby, he was desperately poorly following a serious illness and a fall at home.
Gradually, with the care and dedication of the team, James has regained his health and his physical strength, to the point where two years later, he has now recovered enough to move into his own flat in sheltered accommodation.
The home’s Deputy Manager, Gemma Hill, said: “It’s been so fantastic to see the change in James, it’s been amazing, he’s come on in leaps and bounds and has completely got back his independence.”
James, who is 90, initially chose to come to The Park Residential and Nursing Home in Derby, because his late wife was a resident there and, in his own words, was “cared for wonderfully” by the devoted team.
During James’ long road to recovery, he developed a love for gardening at the home, and became The Park’s Resident Ambassador, speaking at residents’ meetings and sharing feedback with the team.
Speaking of his incredible journey James said: “The staff here mean the world to me, they have looked after me wonderfully. I’m now 100 per cent compared with what I was like when I came in – I’m fighting fit now. I’ve been in good surroundings, in good company and I’m pleased to be alive!
“Before I came here I had virtually no contact with people, but all the staff made up for that and I’ve got all my friends here, the garden and nice food, and I hope to come back to visit.”
