“It’s a huge relief as I know she’s safe and enjoying herself” – Hazel’s day care journey

When Sarah became concerned about her mother, Hazel, spending too much time alone, she discovered our Breme day care. Much to Hazel’s delight, it’s often the highlight of her week. 

Hazel now spends two days a week at the service, which provides older people in the local community with the chance to connect and socialise in the comfort of a beautifully designed suite at Sanctuary Care’s Breme Residential Care Home in Bromsgrove. 

As well as enjoying the delicious home-cooked meals, Hazel values the social side of the service most. She explains: “It gives you the chance to make new friends, speak to people your own age and feel part of something. 

“I come for the companionship and love to socialise with everyone here. I like feeling part of a group and it gives me something to get up for in the morning. It makes me feel happy and content and we love to sit and reminisce.” 

For Sarah, knowing Hazel, who lives with Alzheimer’s, is both safe and happy brings peace of mind. “It’s a huge relief me as I know that she’s safe and enjoying herself. And the staff are just brilliant. I felt it was important for mum to socialise more and get out and I can’t be at home with her all the time. 

“She absolutely loves coming here. She will try anything and loves to get involved. When mum is here, she’s a real chatterbox and loves being around people!” 

At 86, Hazel embraces the opportunity to try new experiences and reconnect with past hobbies. She enjoys painting, playing games, and especially the freshly baked cakes, which are always a highlight. 

Our affordable day care at Breme costs £45 per day and runs on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 9:30am to 3:30pm. It’s the perfect place to make new friends, explore interests, or even take up a new hobby. We offer:
