CQC Success for Dovecote Care Home

Dovecote Residential Care Home near Gateshead celebrated a milestone achievement following an impressive report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

In the recent inspection, our home in Rowlands Gill, High Spen, was graded ‘good’ across five quality indicators: safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership. 

The CQC praised the quality of care and support at the care home, where residents enjoy tailored experiences, such as community coffee mornings, bingo, afternoon tea with loved ones and gentle exercise sessions. 

Dovecote also hosts regular Alzheimer’s Society Singing for the Brain music therapy sessions, which are particularly beneficial for residents living with dementia. 

The inspector’s report highlighted the “supportive” team who show residents “kindness, empathy and compassion”, treating people as individuals whilst ensuring the “care, support and treatment meets [their] needs and preferences”.  
During the inspection, the CQC consulted with residents' relatives, who shared the positive impact the care home services and team have had on their lives.  

One relative said: “They [the team] are exceptional, very, very comforting. They take the time to gradually get to know everyone and the staff are wonderful.”  

Another added: “I would be hard pushed to think of what they could do better. They even let me bring my loved one’s dog in to visit. Their eyes lit up. I got a lump in my throat!” 

The team’s ability to promote independence, enabling residents to enjoy “choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing” was also commended by the CQC, alongside the home’s inclusive and fair culture. 
The ‘Good’ rating is a testament to the Dovecote team’s commitment to enriching the lives of its residents, families and staff.
