Norman’s story: Finding comfort, safety and companionship

When Norman’s mobility started to decline, he found himself spending too much time at home alone. His family visited regularly but were becoming increasingly concerned about him being isolated when they weren’t there. When he started having falls at night, they knew it was time to find a care home where he could receive the support – and social interaction – he needed. 

Now a year later and 96-year-old Norman is happy, safe and thriving at our Dalby Court Residential Care Home in Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough.  

His son Stuart shares how the move has not only made Norman very happy but has given the whole family peace of mind that he is safe and surrounded by wonderful, caring staff. 

“At home he wouldn’t see people from one day to the next and we would get calls to say he had fallen in the night. Last February he was so poorly, but since moving to Dalby Court he’s bounced back and he’s really well,” Stuart explains. 

“He really likes the staff and gets on so well with them, they have such a great rapport.” 

Stuart explains that Norman’s room faces the sun and is welcoming and comfortable, with ornaments from home. He also loves the home-cooked food prepared by Dalby Court’s chef and his daily visits from family. 

“And we have the reassurance that he’s in caring environment and safe, he has that interaction with people going in and out to see him all day,”Stuart adds.
