Mavis pedalling her way to fitness!

When Mavis moved to our Briggs Lodge Residential and Nursing Home, she never imagined she would be as active both physically and socially as she is now!
At the age of 84, Mavis moved into our care home in Devizes in November after having several falls at home.
She initially only intended to have a short respite care stay to help her get back on her feet. But Mavis loved it so much that she decided to stay – and in January pledged to make 2025 her year of fitness.
With the help of the team, who sourced an exercise bike for her, Mavis is now pedalling her way to success! With a member of the staff by her side for reassurance - Mavis rides the bike every day, clocking up between three and five miles each time.
“I really enjoy it – it's something anyone can do,” she explains. “And I can chat to people while I’m doing it. It makes me feel so good, like I’m achieving something every day.”
As well as her cycling, Mavis loves to join in the home’s keep fit classes, which are run twice a week by the team. “There’s always something going on here and I try and join in with everything, from quizzes and exercise classes, to coffee mornings,” she adds.
And for Mavis, the social side of life at Briggs Lodge is just as enriching. “When I lived on my own, I could go all day without seeing anybody,” she says. “I don’t feel lonely here like I did at home. I’m so happy here – the staff are so kind and caring and there’s always someone to sit and talk to.
“My health has really improved since I’ve been here too – I’m not going home again that’s for sure!”
