Mother’s Day words of wisdom

This Mother’s Day, we are celebrating the incredible mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers and aunts in our care homes by sharing their heartfelt words of wisdom with the next generation of mums.
Inspired by the cherished conversations between residents and staff, the idea was to give residents the opportunity to share their reflections and advice for new and expecting parents.
Among those taking part is Maureen Carter, a resident at Blackwood Residential Care Home in Cornwall, who offers a reassuring message to new mums, to “be patient with yourself!”
Her fellow residents also shared their own words of encouragement with Marlene Sheer (86) urging new and expecting mums to “enjoy every moment!”, and Jessie Rheel (97) suggesting them to “make time for yourself”.
Annmarie Thomas, Home Manager at Blackwood Residential Care Home, commented:
“Motherhood comes with its joys and challenges, and sometimes a little wisdom from others can make all the difference.
"Our care homes are home to many incredible women. Mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers and aunts, each with their own unique experiences and stories to tell.
"Mother’s Day is a cherished occasion for many of our residents, offering a special opportunity to come together, reminisce and celebrate memories. Reflecting on these moments creates a sense of connection and belonging.”
