The staff are like “angels” – Jo and Margaret’s journey

When Margaret had a stroke and was no longer able to cope at home, her daughter Jo was worried that she wouldn’t like living in a care home. But when she walked into Blackwood in Cornwall, those worries melted away. 

Having lived at Blackwood Residential Care Home in Camborne for just three months, Jo says Margaret is thriving.  

“I am truly overwhelmed by the difference in her already,” she explains. “She’s like a new woman! She used to worry about everything, but since she’s moved into Blackwood she is so chilled out!  

“She holds my hand, and we have the best conversations. She’s so relaxed it’s like all her worries have been taken away and she’s the happiest person in the world!” 

Jo explains how Margaret loves being in the home more and more each day.  

“From the moment we walked through the door we felt so welcomed,” she adds. “Mum chose a lovely room with a lovely view. I’ve never seen my mum laughing or smiling as much as she does here.  

“I’m over the moon. I’m in awe of the staff, they go above and beyond and are angels, all of them.” 

And for Jo, the support she gets from the team is second to none. “They look after me as well as mum,” she explains.  

“Mum’s worked hard all her life as a nurse, so to see her so happy here, enjoying the home-cooked food and all the home comforts is wonderful. It couldn’t be better it really is wonderful and I’m so grateful.  

“Blackwood isn’t just a care home, it’s everyone’s home and I also feel like I am part of the Blackwood family.”
