Mealtimes at our East Kilbride care home
Mealtimes are a real highlight for the residents, who enjoy delicious traditional Scottish fare prepared by head chef Stephen, who has worked at the home for nearly 30 years!
He knows our residents’ likes and dislikes and will cater to their every need. If they fancy something which isn’t on the menu, Stephen is happy to prepare it for them. The cakes he makes for birthday celebrations and every day for afternoon tea are outstanding.
The team often plans food and drink themed activities which our residents just love! We host cheese and wine evenings and cocktail days including a rum day.
Enriching lives through activities
Keeping residents engaged and stimulated with fulfilling activities is a vital part of life in our home and it's something we believe we do exceptionally well. Our dedicated team arrange and provide a whole host of activities and day trips to keep our residents engaged and living an enriched life.
We have our own minibus at the home, and our residents love to get out and about in our local community. We enjoy trips to bowling and taking to the water on either a boat or a barge trip.
We recently had a 'ladies day' trip, where we visited a nail salon and went for a lovely lunch. The ladies loved the experience of being in the salon and having their nails done by a professional manicurist.
Other favourite spots that our residents like to go each week are South Lanarkshire’s Calderglen Country Park and Whitelee Wind Farm in Eaglesham, Glasgow. If they fancy a little retail therapy, the care home is a very short drive from the town’s main shopping centre.
As well as getting out and about, we love to welcome visitors into our home. We love visits from Skye the beautiful golden retriever, who joins us for pet therapy each month.
Skye isn't our only furry visitor, we have also welcomed Shetland ponies and a small petting zoo.
We really are one big family at Forefaulds, and our residents' loved ones and our local community are all part of that. We open our doors regularly to our local community for various events including our summer fayre which was a great success, with games to enjoy, street food and even a soak the staff to enjoy!
Whether enjoying a spot of holistic therapy with our regular Reiki sessions or waving pom poms around in the music and movement classes, there is always something to do!
Our more intimate one to one activities are so important too, where we sit with a resident and do anything from reading poetry together, spend time reminiscing or treat them to a relaxing hand massage.
Every week the leaders of the local churches conduct services at Forefaulds, especially for our residents. We are also invited back to Moncrieff Parish Church in Calderwood every week for activities, including dominoes, darts and boules.
There is a Namaste room at Forefaulds, which is a relaxing area where our residents who live with dementia can spend time in soothing surroundings. They can enjoy a hand or foot massage, with mood lighting and the scent of aromatic oil fills the room.
