Birchwood Care Home in Clayhall
Set in a central position of Clayhall, Birchwood is a care home with a real family feel to it.
At the very heart of the home are the staff, who are devoted to fulfilling and enriching the lives of their residents in every way they possibly can.
The home caters for people who have lifelong conditions, those who are recovering from an injury or illness and those who are living with dementia. We provide a caring and friendly environment and offer a variety of leisure, social and therapeutic activities tailored to the wishes and needs of the individuals who live with us. Through our professional partners, we can also provide Occupational Therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy and dietetic support.
Activities and nearby attractions
A stone’s throw from Barkingside High Street, the home is situated close to shops and eateries, as well as being near two train stations, providing direct access to the city centre of London. With all this on their doorstep, members of the team are able to organise regular outings for the residents, including pub lunches, as well as visits to the local library.
A short drive away is Clayhall Park, which the residents love to visit. A little further afield is the award-winning Valentine’s Park in Redbridge. With a large lake, it’s the perfect place to feed the ducks, followed by a coffee and a slice of cake.
Other regular activities on offer include light chair-based exercise sessions with a group called Fit for Fun. Different religious groups also come to the home to socialise with the residents, whether having a chat over a cup of tea, holding a service of worship or simply joining in with a knitting session, they are very welcome.
The home also hosts themed community events throughout the year. This summer the team have organised a Hawaiian themed virtual cruise week for the residents. They will transport them to this exotic destination by recreating it in the heart of the home. There will be plenty of grass skirts, floral garlands and bright and colourful shirts, as well as live music, games and amazing food. Events like this are open to people from the local community to come along and spend time with our residents.
Birchwood's dedicated team
In 2018 Birchwood’s maintenance assistant Peter Young was shortlisted in London’s regional finals of the Great British Care Awards, for The Ancillary Worker Award. Peter, who has been at the home for 12 years, was nominated because of his complete dedication to his residents. Examples of how he goes above and beyond include him spending time gardening with them and even helping the team to take them on day trips, all done during his days off.
Another member of the team often pops in with their dog Milo, whom the residents absolutely adore and who equally enjoys coming to the home to have lots of fuss and a few sneaky treats. The loved ones of our residents also take the opportunity to visit with their well-behaved dogs. Many of the residents would have had dogs of their own before moving into the home and will miss that canine contact, so this is a welcome treat for them.
Pricing information
It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for this in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions.
Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to understand the level of care and support needed. Our 2024 weekly care fees for residential care start from £1,231 but may be in the region of 30% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms through to our premium bedroom options.
*If you require more specialist care such as 1-2-1 support, your weekly fee could be higher.
Based on a survey completed by our residents and their loved ones.
