“I feel like I make a difference every day” Bee’s 27 years at Ivydene
When Bee Turney started working at our care home in Ivybridge when she was 17, she had no idea she’d be here enriching the lives of her residents an amazing 27 years later.
“I can honestly say I love my job,” said Bee, who is a team leader at Ivydene Residential and Nursing Home, and a mother of two.
“I love making the residents smile – the other day I was doing the Conga down the corridor with one of our residents because that is what she wanted to do, so we did it!
“It’s our job to give our residents the very best and I feel like I make a difference every day. It’s very satisfying, going home knowing I have done my best to keep our residents safe and happy – it makes me feel really good.”
For Bee, she loves spending time doing often very simple things which make her residents smile.
“Recently during the summer heatwave, it was far too hot to go outside, so once it had cooled down we took the residents to sit by the river with ice creams,” she added.
And it isn’t just Bee who has worked at Ivydene for a long time, many of her colleagues have been there for over a decade.
She explains: “We have a really good team of staff here and I really enjoy working with them. A lot of them have been here a long time which shows how homely Ivydene is. This job is so rewarding and I would encourage anyone who wants to work in care to do so.”
