Summer fun at Sanctuary Care: five exciting activities for our residents
This summer, we're bringing five life-enriching activities to our care homes. From cocktail shaking and parties to outdoor adventures and pet therapy, there’s summer fun in our care homes for everyone to enjoy!
From Pride parties to cocktail afternoons
Over in Scotland, the team and residents at our Allanbank Care Home in Dumfries pulled out all the stops for Pride month with an afternoon of cabaret and karaoke.
The extravaganza was organised by Nick Barry, the home’s activities coordinator and talent variety performer, who goes by the stage name Miss Tiffany Rose.
Some staff and residents have been making their own delicious cocktail creations. From Pina Coladas and Margaritas, to rum punch and fruity mocktails, these have been the perfect addition to summer barbecues and outdoor games for our care home residents.
Football freestyling
Despite our narrow defeat to Spain at the final hurdle of the Euros, at our Cedar Grange Residential and Nursing Home in Cornwall, football fever was flying high when the UK’s freestyle champion, Sam Cunningham, popped by to show off his skills. Residents, like Phylis (pictured), learnt some new skills, trying out a few tricks for themselves!
Outdoor adventures
When the sun comes out, off to the water we go! From fish and chips on the beach to enjoying the sea breeze with rickshaw rides along the promenade.
At our Queens Care Home in Prestwick, the team planned a very special trip, with residents enjoying a fabulous holiday at the Craig Tara Haven holiday park.
Feeling the sand between their toes with walks along the beach, playing games in the arcades and dancing to live music and a tipple or two at the entertainments centre, they had a whale of a time!
Getting brave with all creatures great and small
Our residents have loved getting up close and personal with plenty of creatures and critters. From graceful owls and Hank the lamb at our Yarnton Residential and Nursing Home in Oxfordshire, to giant snails and snakes, there has been no shortage of animal encounters.
Growing their own way
Gardening activities for our care home residents have become so popular. From lettuces and strawberries to runner beans and carrots, they have been rolling up their sleeves and nurturing their home-grown produce.
Harvesting these fresh ingredients for our chefs to use in the kitchens has given our residents a tremendous sense of achievement and purpose.
