“Mum says her respite stays are like a holiday”

When Jane suggested that mum Doris might need a respite care stay while she had some disruptive maintenance works done at home, Doris was adamant she would not go.
Fast forward to today and she has just enjoyed her fourth respite stay at our Juniper House Residential Care Home in Worcester.
Jane explains: “Mum once said ‘don’t you ever dare put me in a care home’. She came to Juniper House for one week and she absolutely loved it! She tells everyone that coming here is like going on holiday and she is so happy when she’s here.
“She tells us how welcoming everyone is at Juniper House and how she always gets a hug and a smile. It’s so nice to hear that everyone is so genuinely happy to see her.”
Jane said the regular week-long stays enable Doris, who is 87 years old, to continue living independently at home, with short periods of respite to give her a change of scenery and the opportunity to enjoy the company of the fellow residents.
Jane said Doris loves that she can have her own privacy in her spacious, en-suite bedroom.
“And if we go on holiday, it means I haven’t got to worry that she’s had a fall at home – it’s nice to know she’s safe” adds Jane.
“She joins in with all the activities and has her hair done in the salon which she really likes.”
Meanwhile Doris adds: “I’d happily live here and really look forward to coming. You are not restricted, and the staff are so caring. Nothing is too much trouble for them.”
