What is life like at our care home in Weoley Castle?
Our team are passionate about creating a special community here, at our Weoley Castle care home. Our residents play a very active role in determining how the home is run – with resident ambassadors getting involved in everything from running activities to interviewing potential staff.
We believe when someone moves into Castlecroft, we must help and encourage them to do the things that bring them joy and a sense of purpose. Residents like Ron (whose story you can read below) are a great example of this. With our help, he still coaches children’s rugby, and we’ve even built him his own gym at Castlecroft, so he can continue his passion for keeping fit.
The loved ones of our residents get involved too, running our vintage café, hosting music sessions, and volunteering within the home itself. We also have our own care home cats. It’s this approach that gives Castlecroft Residential Care Home a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a genuine family feel.
Our Weoley Castle care home’s award-winning team
We are so proud of the team at our care home in Weoley Castle. Many of them have won or been shortlisted for prestigious care awards. Manager, Sharon was a finalist in the Dementia Care Manager category at the National Care Awards 2022.
Sharon was joined by Laura, who was in the running for the Care Housekeeper accolade! And not forgetting our award-winning activities staff, Tina and Lisa who go above and beyond to enrich the lives of our residents.
Together they support our residents through compassionate care tailored to meet individual needs and requirements.
What activities are on offer at Castlecroft care home?
From individual, more person-centred activities to bigger group events, there is so much going on at Castlecroft. From arts and crafts to cooking - our residents even run their own curry club, making delicious curries from scratch!
We have our own pub, The Raven, where our residents can play darts and snooker, or have a chat over a drink.
Our gardens are always a hive of activity in the summer, with a gardening club and family volunteers getting involved in creating the vegetable patch.
For those residents who want to look their best, we have a hairdresser and a barber visit for regular appointments in our salon and beauty room. And we also have a beautician who offers mother and daughter pampering sessions!
What kind of food do you serve at Castlecroft?
Food is one of the highlights of the day – whether that’s sweet treats with afternoon tea, or home-made lunches and dinners. There’s always plenty of choice for our residents. Our chefs and catering staff work with the regular feedback from our residents to deliver a dining experience that’s nutritious, delicious, and ultimately enjoyable for everyone.
Castlecroft care home in the local community
We love to keep our residents engaged in the community outside the care home. Local school children and well-behaved pets from the Weoley Castle area are regular visitors.
We also run a dementia café at Castlecroft, supporting caregivers in our community caring for loved ones living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Pre-bookable respite care at our care home in Weoley Castle
As well as residential and dementia care, we also offer respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance. These can be used to support caregivers, so they can take that well-earned rest, with the peace of mind of knowing their loved one is in safe hands.
The breaks can also be used by elderly people who need to take a period of convalescence – for example, when they require some extra support as they recover from illness.
