Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home, Plymouth
One of our two care homes in Plymouth, our team at Furzehatt care home is passionate about supporting residents to do the things they love to do. Providing residential, dementia, nursing, and palliative care, as well as respite care breaks, we can also support people with rehabilitation.
Life at our nursing home in Plymouth
We support our residents to have an active role to play in how their home is run. Our resident ambassadors do everything from interviewing potential staff to showing new residents around.
While our residents enjoy delicious home-cooked food every day, many also love to bake. We like to keep it local, making everything from pastries to scones.
We have supported one of our residents to join the local Good Grief Choir. Our residents also enjoy our book group and woodwork club.
Our residents enjoy lots of animal visitors, including well-behaved pets. And there’s our cat Mario, and budgies Charles and Camilla! Family and friends can visit anytime, and we share photos and videos with them on our private Facebook and WhatsApp groups.
We have a very large and beautiful garden which is a wonderful place to spend time with family and friends. We support our keen gardeners to grow their own produce, which will be served up by our chef when it’s ready! This gives our residents a real sense of achievement to see their own handiwork being used in our menus.
The heart of our Plymstock community
We are proud to be the first care home in Plymouth to join Plymouth’s Dementia Action Alliance, a group set up to make our area as dementia friendly as possible. With many of our residents living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, it’s group that’s close to our hearts.
We are regularly joined by students from Plymouth City College, who love to spend time here on work experience. The sports students love to do armchair exercises with our residents. Local nursery and school children also regularly join us for activities. Student nurses also spend time at our nursing home in Plymouth - and we love to support their careers to flourish.
We have some fantastic volunteers who do everything from gardening and music sessions to games and crafts with our residents. They are a valuable part of life in our nursing home.
Every week, a mobile hairdresser visits for appointments in our salon. And we have our very own communion services, with members of our local church in Plymstock regularly visiting.
