Selfless and kind-hearted Jen is an awards finalist
A selfless activities co-ordinator at our nursing home in Bridgwater has been shortlisted for a prestigious community carer’s award.
Jen Freeman, who has worked at The Rosary Nursing Home for 12 years, is a finalist in The Carer category in BBC Radio Somerset’s Make a Difference Awards following a surprise nomination.
Working full time, grandmother-of-three Jen leaves work each day and cares for her mother, her father, and her father-in-law. And when she has a spare moment, she also supports with childcare for her three grandchildren.
Jen has always cared for others, from a young age when she looked after her siblings, to caring for her grandmother who lived with dementia, her position at The Rosary where she was a carer then activities co-ordinator, to the amazing care she provides to her elderly relatives.
She says: “I feel shocked to have been nominated! My nan always said to me that nothing can compete with a smile – if you can make someone smile then you’ve helped them.”
Jen is equally as amazing with the home’s residents and her colleagues. She is often dropping in on her days off to spend time with the residents or support her colleagues.
She adds: “I love my job and the residents mean everything to me.”
Jen will find out if she has won at a special awards ceremony in Taunton soon, so watch this space and good luck Jen!
