Ged – our maintenance man with the voice of an angel!
As we shine a light on some of the amazing staff in our care homes we meet Ged – who not only helped to build Dalby Court Residential Care Home, he loves it so much he’s worked there ever since.
When Ged was helping to build our care home in Coulby Newham, little did he know he would be there maintaining the gardens and the building over two decades later.
And little did Ged know that during that time, he would discover a passion for singing – something he shares with many of the residents!
Part of ‘The Dalesman Singers’, a Yorkshire-based male voice choir who have performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Ged knows the power of music, especially for people living with dementia.
You will often find him spontaneously singing with the residents – and they never cease to amaze him.
“So many of them, even if they might struggle to speak, will know all the words – it just comes naturally to them,” he says.
“It’s fantastic therapy – I like to think that when I’m older people will be singing with me and encouraging me to sing. The staff love to get involved and it’s just very natural. I get such tremendous pleasure from it.”
