Sanctuary Care’s Senior Management Team and one of our nursing home managers are celebrating being named finalists in Care Home Professional’s Leaders in Care Awards 2022.

Sanctuary Care Senior Management Team (SMT) is in the running for the Executive of the Year Award, while Kathryn Pattison, of Fernihurst Nursing Home in Exmouth, is a finalist for the Registered Manager of the Year (South) accolade.

The SMT, led by Chief Operating Officer – Care and Support, Sarah Clarke-Kuehn, was nominated following the launch of Sarah’s pioneering Enriching Lives framework, based on the six senses people need to feel truly happy and fulfilled – a sense of security, belonging, continuity, purpose, achievement and significance. The framework is being rolled out across Sanctuary Care’s homes, so that we can establish what an enriched life looks like for every single one of our residents.

Another highlight was the success of a series of volunteering events, led by our Director of Property Management, Juliette Wilson. This summer 216 Sanctuary staff were inspired to devote the equivalent of over 327 volunteering days, doing painting, decorating and gardening works at 21 of our care homes, with more events planned.

Sarah said: “I’m enormously proud of my team and what we’ve achieved. We are so proud to be not for profit, inspiring our colleagues to do everything they can to provide the very best care for our residents.”

Meanwhile Kathryn has been the manager at Fernihurst, a nursing home for people living with dementia and complex nursing needs, for four years.

She was nominated for the way she empowers every single member of her team to engage their residents with truly meaningful and person-centred activities. Like maintenance man Kevin, who has created a special workshop where he spends time doing woodwork and making things with the residents.

Speaking about being shortlisted, Kathryn said: “I’m shocked but delighted and feel very proud – it’s an absolute privilege and an honour.”

Another highlight of Kathryn’s nomination was her passion for ensuring her residents and their loved ones have a very active role in how Fernihurst is run. From choosing items to furnish the gardens, to chairing and getting involved in menu and activity planning meetings, they are at the forefront of decision making - and Kathryn wouldn’t have it any other way!

The winners will be announced on Tuesday 11 October, so watch this space!
