Mum’s respite break at Mulberry – “the staff were absolutely amazing”

Jayne was in need of a well-deserved holiday, but was too worried to leave her mother Anne at home. After hearing about the opening of the Mulberry Suite, a dedicated respite suite at Sanctuary Care’s Breme Residential Care Home in Bromsgrove, they booked a visit.

“The staff were absolutely amazing - from the moment we went to look round it just felt right,” explains Jayne, who is Anne’s main carer. Anne enjoyed a two-week break at the Mulberry Suite, which has beautifully decorated bedrooms with ensuite wet rooms, a communal lounge and dining area, kitchenette and a quiet study area.

“Mum was very happy there,” adds Jayne. “And she loved the staff – they were kind, compassionate, caring and warm.”

And for Jayne, she and her husband Colin enjoyed a two-week Mediterranean cruise, with the peace of mind of knowing Anne was happy and safe.

“I haven’t been so relaxed in such a long time,” Jayne adds. “I never feel rested if she’s at home, because I know she’s on her own. This time I absolutely loved it because I knew she was safe and being so well looked after.”

“Mum loved the staff and said she would be happy to go back there if it ever came to the point that she needed to give up her home”, adds Jayne.

“And I would be more than happy for mum to go back too – I wouldn’t want her going anywhere else.”

Respite breaks at the eight-bed Mulberry Suite can be pre-booked up to six months ahead.

This unique service means that carers in the community can have some ‘me time’, with the peace of mind of knowing their loved one is being cared for in wonderful surroundings.
