Garside House Care Home
Garside House is set in the heart of the vibrant Pimlico area of Westminster, close to the Tate Britain gallery and the Vauxhall Bridge over the River Thames.
As well as providing nursing and dementia care, the home has a suite where the nursing team provides rehabilitation for people who require wound care. Once they have recovered they are able to either return home to live independently or to a residential care home if they no longer require nursing care.
Garside's team of volunteers
There is a dedicated group of volunteers who regularly give up their time to spend with our residents at Garside House. Whether simply having a chat over a cup of tea, reading with our residents, playing music or helping out with social activities like the fortnightly tea parties, they are a real asset to the home and its team.
We are also fortunate to have a strong relationship with one of our local primary schools, who regularly send in their young choir to practice their performances out on us!
Other visitors to the home – of a non-human variety are creatures and critters from Zoolab. Their animal handlers bring along everything from snakes and owls to insects and rabbits. Garside House also has a regular Pets as Therapy (PAT) dog which pops in for a fuss and a biscuit or two.
In the spring Garside House took delivery of an incubator and we proudly hatched and hand-reared 10 chicks, which now take pride of place in the gardens of the home. They are not yet laying eggs but are very happy with their new home and our residents adore them!
A multi-cultural approach to support and nutrition
Mealtimes are also an important part of the day for our residents. As a multi-cultural nursing home, we also organise themed food-sampling events, with menus from across the globe, from Caribbean cuisine to Italian.
Our residents follow many different religions and faiths, so we support them with visits to local churches, mosques and other places of worship, as well as hosting religious groups they would like to see within their home.
Regular activities on offer include gentle exercise sessions, games, arts and crafts and themed activity nights. Our residents enjoy frequent visits from entertainers and groups from our local community.
Based on a survey completed by our residents and their loved ones.
