Celebrating two more Great British Care Awards finalists!

Great British Care Awards Regional Finalist graphic

A devoted Sanctuary Care home team and an inspirational care home manager are celebrating being shortlisted for regional Great British Care Awards.

Prince Alfred Residential Care Home in Liverpool and Lorraine Pells at Parkview House Residential Care Home in London are finalists in the Care Team Award (for the North West) and Care Home Registered Manager Award (for London) respectively.

Lorraine has dedicated her working life to Parkview House, joining the home 22 years ago as a carer and progressing to home manager.

She inspires and motivates her team, championing their personal development and constantly showing her appreciation for the amazing job they do. She even made them goody bags, filled with everything from edible treats to a poem she wrote as a heartfelt thank you.

During the pandemic for a period the home’s hairdresser couldn’t come in, so Lorraine even turned her hand to styling too!

She said: “It is so overwhelming – I felt very emotional reading what people said about me in my nomination and I am really shocked, but extremely happy to have been shortlisted.”

Cheryl Dobie, home manager of Prince Alfred Residential Care Home in Liverpool, which has been shortlisted for a regional Great British Care Award

Cheryl Dobie has worked at Prince Alfred for a staggering 30 years, 20 of which as home manager. Many of her team have been there for over a decade (some even longer), totalling over 300 years’ care experience between them.

The nomination highlighted how every member of the team embraces activities, as they know doing things which make their residents happy and fulfilled is key to enriching their lives.

During the pandemic they made it their mission to create fun experiences every single day to bring joy to the residents, with everything from mini garden Olympic games and piñata parties to themed food events and pyjama parties.

Cheryl said: “We’re one big family at Prince Alfred. My team are precious and I value every one of them – I wouldn’t be there without them. They put their heart and soul into this home they are very special people doing a very special job”.

Prince Alfred and Lorraine will find out if they have won their categories at special awards ceremonies this month.
